Could living fearfully and stressing about situations around us weaken our immune system, decrease vitality, and upset our digestion?

Of course! Eating clean and balanced is not rocket science. Just look at that picture and see the glorious choices we have! Most of us know what to do, but are doing the opposite.

During times of high stress, eat foods that are closest to their natural state as it will be easier to digest and create a balance within the body. Highly processed foods weaken the immune system and can upset our digestive process. This then creates less nutrients to get into our cells! And then creates weakened tissues and systems of the body.

Julie’s top recommendations for healthy digestion 💚

Everything we eat has an energy frequency that creates either vitality or takes it away. If we are eating poor quality food and getting overly stressed, our digestive system tries to break down food, but may not be able to. It produces less stomach acid (the acid we need to breakdown protein and protect us from microbes like bacteria or viruses) and the pancreas will struggle to keep up with the enzymes delivery for further breaking down protein, fats, and carbohydrates.

Living peacefully in the midst of threats, is a self-discipline practice to be developed each day. One of the best ways to do this is to filter negative individuals and information while living life based on knowledge and truth.

We trust You will continue to lead and guide us in all things, We thank You that we don’t have to think about digestion and it just happens because You have created order within us. If we get tempted to turn our attention to fearful things of this world for too long, You will give us bodily symptoms to remind us we are going adrift. Thank You that You always make a way of escape when we refocus on You, the author and finisher of our faith. Jesus You are the answer to every trouble we have. Your sacred and sacrificial blood has been give to save us from eternity without You and Your body has empowered us through Spirit to do all things you have called us to do. We are empowered for such at time as this to share your love, truth, peace and hope no matter what comes our way. In Jesus name.

As we go through the winter months, the same story about the cold and flu season seems to arise: we better get ready for it, because it’s coming our way!

What are the culprits to “catching” the cold, flu or any other kind of microbe? Spending too much time inside (where bugs can spread fast), reducing our movement/healthy exercise, stressing about things out of our control, poor digestion, not getting enough sunshine and rest, plus eating too many comfort foods, rather than nutritious ones. Any one or combination of these can put our immune system on the defense which allows the cold or flu bug to take over with debilitating results.

Having a cold or the flu can sometimes create fearful thoughts that weaken our system. How long will this misery last? Can I catch up with all my missed work work? Or will I even be able to crawl out of this pit I’m in? Fear and dread can quickly deplete our immune building reserves and cause our immune system to be vulnerable to attacks from microbes.

If we add on top of it the news reports of deaths from the flu or the CoronaVirus coming into the United States we can easily become even more fearful. I often hear myself saying to myself and others, “Let’s not make decisions based on fear, but of knowledge and truth!”

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC, estimates that from October 1, 2020 through February 1, 2020 there have been 22-31,000,000 flu illnesses, 10-15,000,000 flu related medical visits, 210,00-370,000 flu hospitalizations, and 12-30,000 flu deaths.

In order to really defeat an enemy like the flu, we must go on the offense! When it comes to a sport like basketball or soccer, the players can play great defense throughout the game, but at some point, in order to actually win the game, they must have a strong offense and score! 💥

When it comes to the offense in your body, your immune system will not only help you score points throughout the day to make you feel amazing, it also has the potential to take down any intruder (viral, bacterial, fungal, parasite) that comes along.

6 Ways to Build a Strong Offense with Your Immune System… 👏

  1. Get outside, and enjoy the fresh cool air regularly with a walk or hike through the woods.
  2. Enjoy your fresh fruits, veggies and low-sugar foods in abundance
  3. Get the body moving, stretching and/or lifting with regular exercise
  4. Stress management is so important. If you are stressed out, you are on the defense.
  5. Get sufficient rest. Body heals and restores during rest phases.

A number of people who start a fresh, new wellness plan somehow miss the part when I say they may go through some uncomfortable symptoms while moving toward abundant health. Some jump ship within a few days or they become fearful thinking they are getting worse and that I must have made a mistake with their plan. While I know I am not infallible, I typically will spend a few hours with someone while thoroughly assessing their current state of health then create a program that promote balance within the systems. It’s not unusual for us to get calls or emails with distressed clients asking what they are taking or doing that is making them feel so bad.  They may believe they are having an allergic response to something or just want to find the culprit of their physical distress. Usually they’re relieved to hear their symptoms are normal and a part of the beautiful healing crisis. So, read on if you’re curious about the beauty within a healing crisis and 8 reasons to love it.

There is a story about a reluctant chap named Jonah who was unwilling to follow the path God called him to and because of that, found himself in the belly of a whale. Sometimes in life, we too can get off the path of wellness because of poor health choices or lack of knowledge.  I’m confident going through that crisis in the whale was very uncomfortable for Jonah but it was imperative to the survival and healing of his body, mind, and spirit. 3 days later, the whale spewed him onto dry land, giving him a second chance at redemption. Once on the right path, he came to the location he was told to go to in the first place and declared his assignment to the people living in wickedness, “Yet 40 days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” They believed him and it caused them to believe God as well. Even the king set up a decree agreeing to a community fast and told everyone to turn from their evil ways. God’s heart was won over by the unity of the people to address the issues that were creating a wicked environment for them by repenting and turning from their wicked ways. Such power in repentance and turning!

Our body has an amazing ability to display a similar miraculous redemptive work once we begin to move in the right direction of health and healing. This often comes with discomfort and physical symptoms that may cause us to wonder how and why they are happening when we are doing the right thing. It is true that we can feel at our worst when we begin a healthier lifestyle or use natural therapies to allow our bodies to respond to this redemptive work. We are changing daily as cells die off and new ones begin thus creating either healthier or sicker environments depending on how we are engaging in and responding to our environment. If we view ourselves as our own science project every day and pay attention to what is happening as we go through the ups and downs of the day, we can learn a lot from our daily experiments. What we do today will impact us not only for the day but for the days, weeks, months, and years to come. We are either building up to be a stronger person or breaking down to be a weaker one. Julie’s 8 Reasons to Love a Healing Crisis

  1. THIS TOO SHALL PASS

Let’s remember that symptoms are our friend and often don’t always need to be masked by medications if you are willing to battle in creative ways. Symptoms are God-given expressions that something is going on in the body: either we are moving towards balance/optimal health (healing crisis) or moving further away towards body breakdown (dis-ease crisis). Be patient and take control of that fear knowing that all these symptoms are working for your good.

Prayer: Father, I’m struggling with these symptoms and I ask for strength through the Holy Spirit to endure this season of healing knowing that it will not last beyond what I can bare, in Jesus name.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purposes.” Romans 8:28

  1. VITALITY IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER

It might take a minute or two, but energy and vitality will return, and thankfully with a vengeance. It takes energy to hold toxins in the body (disease crisis) and it also takes energy to up-regulate them and send them out of the body(healing crisis). Once energy starts to come up, plan on making deposits into your energy bank and don’t take withdrawals right away. Build that kitty up and save that energy. Fight the urge to do a major project until you’ve been a few weeks into high energy day after day.

Prayer: Father, teach me to wait, to be patient during this phase and rest in You. Holy Spirit instruct me, help me understand that many things can wait for me to become well while You are taking care of me by moving me from healing crisis to living a life of wellness, in Jesus name.

“Those that wait on the Lord, shall renew their strength, they shall mount of with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

  1. THE IMMUNE SYSTEM WILL BECOME THE POWERHOUSE AGAIN

It may feel as if you don’t have the ability to fight off infections because you are experiencing the worse cold or flu like symptoms you’ve ever had. Where is your immune system and why isn’t it working? It is building itself up as you are bringing in the resources to do it as you eat properly, follow your wellness plan and relax in order to free up energy for your immune system to use for healing. With the correct resources, the immune system knows exactly what to do and is doing it. Be patient and expect the reset to happen.

Prayer: Father, why do I feel so weak and without strength when I’m follow this plan? You can show me through the Holy Spirit where true power comes from: Your love, Your grace, Your goodness, Your faithfulness, Your ways and my repentance. I humbly repent of all the things I did that were destroying this body you gave me. Lead me in the paths of righteousness and life, in Jesus name.

“But He said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

  1. PLUGGED PIPES AND DRAINS WILL BEGIN FLOWING AGAIN

I often say when someone is feeling atrocious, “Think DRAINAGE, DRAINAGE, DRAINAGE.” If your body is up-regulating toxins into the blood system, there better be a way for them to get out. Otherwise, they will create havoc in the body. The five main drainage and filtration systems of the body that need to be open and flowing are liver, lungs, lymph, large intestines, and kidneys. When any of those are blocked you are more likely to see expressions in the secondary drainage pathways: sinuses, skin, and reproductive organs. Be patient, drink the recommended amount of water, do light movements like stretching and walking, come in for a colon hydrotherapy session and infrared sauna session to support the clearing of the body’s pipes.

Prayer: Father, You can teach my body to drain properly so toxins within any part of me have a pathway out. I submit my body, mind, and spirit to You and trust you with it all. I desire Holy Spirit for You to show me the clear path that leads me out of this storm, in Jesus name.

“The Lord spoke to Job out of the storm: ‘Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.’” Job 40:6-7

  1. PAST ILLNESS MAY RETURN BUT ONLY TO BE ANNIHILATED

As my background in natural medicine has taught me, the body heals from the top down, inside out, and most recent sickness to the oldest. The body is very good at storing toxins within the body fat or extra cellular water to keep them away from the cells and tissues that are running the show. It actually is a very good protective mechanism and also take up energy to do this. Once nutrition and resources are available to build up the tissues and systems of the body so they can work at optimal levels, they are able to do deep dives into the body and remove causes of illnesses one layer at a time. Think of it like peeling back onion layers to uncover what’s been hiding down under creating havoc to the functioning of cells and the holes in the energy boat. Remember it takes a lot of energy to hold sickness in the body which can be an underlying reason for fatigue.

Prayer: Father, this is quite a process I am going through, but You have fearfully and wonderfully created my body to heal itself. You heal me from the top down as I trust You with my mind. Holy Spirit You are healing my insides in the hidden places because healing comes from within my beautifully made body. I am reaping these symptoms of sickness because of what I have sown but Your grace and love will overcome it all as I repent of going my own way instead of Yours that always leads to life, in Jesus name.

“Now it shall come to pass, when all these things come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you call them to mind among all the nations where the Lord your God drives you, and you return to the Lord your God and obey His voice, according to all that I command you today, you and your children, with all your heart and with all your soul, that the Lord your God will bring you back from captivity, and have compassion on you, and gather you again from all the nations where the Lord your God has scattered you.” Deuteronomy 30:1-3

  1. THE WORSE YOU FEEL THE DEEPER THE HOUSE CLEANING

Yes, those toxins that have been hanging out in the corners of the body(fat cells and extra cellular water) all those years, will begin to come out into the blood system to be sent out of the body through the drainage pathways(liver, lymph, lungs, large intestines, and kidneys + skin, sinuses, and reproductive organs). It takes energy to move these out of the body. Once your brilliant body has begun this work, it will realize it can trust what is happening and send more and more toxins out into the life-giving highway system of the body, the blood. This process of house cleaning happens every day for healthy people, you should realize you are doing the work of a healthy person plus the work of deep cleaning that is necessary too. Relax, rest, keep things at a low level until things are cleared out. Be steadfast and preserve through it.

Prayer: Father, You know exactly what I need and I trust You because You are trustworthy. These hidden places within me, I ask that You would touch them by the Holy Spirit and Your light.  Bring a refreshing flow to all areas within me, undoing my past choices that brought weakness to this body, then on to the deeper cleaning that is needed, in Jesus name.

“He reveals deep and hidden things; He know what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him.” Daniel 2:22

  1. HEADED TOWARDS THE GOOD LIFE

Those dreams and aspirations coming from your heart, are meant to come out through your life. It is God’s will for you to be well and live out His purposes for your life with abundance and vitality. Having a perfect life is not a realistic goal nor is it attainable. But having one full of love, peace, and joy in the midst of trials and tribulations is not only possible, but it is God’s will for us. Your body, mind and spirit have the ability to be balanced so be patient during the process of healing. Live with an attitude of excellence to be expressed through you and in you.

Prayer: Father, Wow! I have hope! While I am waiting, I will live and act with an attitude of serenity. I trust You will bring forth through the Holy Spirit the dreams, visions, plans, and purposes You’ve created for me to walk in. Help me to remember all the good things you have spoken to my heart or bring them afresh in me now, in Jesus name.

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” James 1:2-4

  1. RELATIONSHIPS CAN BE RESTORED

As I like to simply say, “Hurting people hurt people.” When we are physiologically out of balance in our bodies and disease is expressing itself, our personalities can become hidden behind the symptoms we are experiencing. The once kind person who loved being around others, can begin to say and do things that are hurtful toward those they encounter daily. In the realm of relationships, if strangers are getting the best of us and those we share life with on a daily basis are getting the worst, we can simply say, “I am a hurting person who is hurting those people I love.” Once we are able to recognize changes are needed and discover what those changes are and apply them, our body, mind and spirit will become balanced. Balanced people express themselves in healthy ways that can restore broken relationships. They can tolerate troubles, trials, and differences which leads to not breaking the foundation of health that is established.

Prayer: Father, it is your love, kindness and patience that leads us to repentance. I choose to repent of all the people I have hurt because of things I’ve said and done. I wasn’t feeling well and this is no excuse for treating people in a manor that I would not like to be treated in. I also choose to forgive all those who have hurt me. I will no longer make excuses or try to defend my bad behavior. Lead me Holy Spirit through this healing process so I can also forgive myself for all my mistakes. Allow the fullness of Your redeeming and forgiving blood Jesus to flow to and through me. In humility and meekness, restore me to fullness of joy in You and fullness of joy with those around me, especially those closest to me.

“Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and He will grant you His blessing.” 1 Peter 3:8-9

 “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, even as Christ forgave you, so you must do. There once was a story about a sower whose seeds fell on different soil or terrains with different kinds of outcomes. The condition of the soil where the seed was dropped effected the growth process. The development of life never had to do with the vitality of the seed, but the environment in which it was found. The seed was never able to take root and grow to fullness until it was put into fertile ground that allowed for the healthy growth process to be completed. (Matthew 13:3-23) If we take this same truth principle and apply it to the human body we can get a deeper understanding of why people go through the process of health or disease. Be it cancer, heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, arthritis, chronic fatigue or any other ailment, the only way a person has a fighting chance to survive with vitality is within the healthy ground of a human body.

Pierre Jacques Antoine Béchamp (1816 –1908) was a French scientist who had contentions with a more famous French scientist, Louis Pasteur (1822-1895).  Béchamp claimed discovery of the “molecular granulations” which lead to his cell theory. The research lead him to believe that bacteria could not invade a healthy animal and cause disease, but instead an unfavorable host and environmental conditions threatened the host’s healthy microbiome (a vast army of microbes in the body).  He stated they break down the host tissue by producing pathogenic bacteria. Claude Bernard (1813-1878), also a French scientist, agreed with Béchamp and his cell theory of disease thriving in a poor-quality terrain.  On the other side of the coin, Pasteur said that many diseases are caused by microorganisms in his germ theory. These small organisms which invade humans, animals, and other living hosts, multiply within their hosts and cause disease. It has also been speculatively said that Pasteur (on his death bed) recanted the germ theory saying, “Bernard was correct. I was wrong. The microbe (germ) is nothing. The terrain (milieu) is everything.”

If we are going to battle an enemy, one of the most important components will be a strong army. This army must be made up of healthy individuals that have been trained for physical strength and have the most powerful weapons to destroy the enemy. I would consider cancer to be an enemy within every person or animal. Since it is a fact that everyone has cancer cells, then it is also a fact that we have the enemy living within. We have been created with an internal military system that seeks out to destroy cancer cells, but more importantly the toxins that feed the growth of cancer cells, be it bacteria, virus, fungus, metals, chemicals. It is called our immune system which is powerful and on alert, ready to seek out and destroy the enemy.

We want to do everything in our power to strengthen our immune system. The National Institute of Health led over 200 researchers and 80 universities in the Human Microbiome Project that proved our bodies are made up of more microbes than cells as it studied 242 individuals. And since a large amount of our immune system is in our gut and made up of microbes, it makes sense that we should pay attention to how we feed our cells as well as our gut microbes. Foods that support immune function and gut health are not going to be found in highly processed foods, antibiotic feed animals, mercury filled fish, grossly pesticide sprayed grains, fruits, and vegetables. Clean-eating contributes to the building of  clean environments where the body is able to self-correct from within! Proper ratios of the macronutrients (proteins, carbohydrates, and fats) are just as important as the micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). The father of immunology, Dr. Eli Metchnikoff said, “Death begins in the colon.” That was stated back in 1908, when he won the noble prize in medicine for his work with the immune system. So how can we support a healthy colon? It starts by eating and drinking natural elements that are able to be broken down by the digestive system and utilized by the cells. Some people have compromised gut walls as well as production of hydrochloric stomach acid, pancreatic enzymes, flow of bile, and gut flora. DRINK WATER!
Could losing weight, getting rid of headaches, pooping daily, body/mind healing, feeling better overall … really be this simple for some people?

YES! Water intake and fluid balance are among the least understood and most neglected areas of overall health and weight management. Because water is very important to health, our bodies attempt to maintain proper fluid and water balance at all times. Consuming too little water can result in water retention. Increasing water intake can actually decrease water retention and the bloating and added weight that accompany it. Read on to find out more.

How much water do we need?

Although individual variation exists, drinking 1/2 your body weight in ounces each day is what is recommended. (If you are working out with perspiration, increase that amount by 20-50%).

  1. Are you a sipper or guzzler? If you don’t seem to find the time to get water down during the day, you may need to become a guzzler and I call that “Cameling Up”. Set a reminder alarm on your phone until you get the routine in place. Try getting 40-50% of your water intake  before you leave the house for the day.
  2. Keep a water bottle that measures fluid ounces with you throughout the day: home, car, gym or at your desk at work. This way the counting is done for you, just remember to refill it throughout the day. All you need to worry about is finishing the bottle/s between the time you wake up and the time you go to bed (recommend getting water in two hours before bed so you have better chance of sleeping peacefully through the night).
  3. Get a measuring bowl…
    • Fill up your favorite glass to drink from.
    • Pour that water into the measuring bowl to see how many ounces it is.
    • Lastly, determine how many glasses you need to consume a day to meet your goal of half your body weight in ounces of water. Make that be your plan.
  4. Look in your iPhone! Go to the App Store for water/hydrate tracker apps. Keep post-it notes on your refrigerator or desk reminding you to drink a glass of water until it becomes habit.
  5. Create a buddy system with a family member, friend, or co-worker to make sure
    you are drinking your water.
  6. Add essential oils from doTERRA plus  fruit or veggies to give it a satisfying flavor. Examples: Fresh lemon, cucumber, or lime slices  with a sprig of mint. 1-2 drops of essential oils like lemon, lime peppermint, cinnamon, spearmint, or wild orange to a glass or stainless steel serving of water. (Always use glass or stainless steel with essential oils.)
  7. Interesting fact: If dehydrated, Colon Hydrotherapy is the fastest way to hydrate the body (over drinking water)! Many healthy people utilize colon hydrotherapy as part of their regular health regime.

How can I find out how much water I have in my body?
It’s very simple and easy to find out. Our office offers a Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis(BIA). BIA calculates and estimates your tissue and fluid compartments – using an electrical current. It measures the body fat in relation to lean body mass. It is an integral part of our health and nutrition assessments.

Won’t I feel more bloated and retain more if I drink more water?
Drinking the appropriate amount of water actually reduces water retention and bloating, even during menstruation for women. Since your body is constantly regulating its fluid balance, you can overcompensate by retaining water if you are not drinking enough. Drinking more water can also help you lose those few extra pounds and aid with proper digestion.

Finally, if you struggle with water intake, remember it’s about gradually working up to your goal of half your weight in ounces. Some days you will hit the mark and others you will celebrate the effort made towards it.  It’s never too late to start—the changes you make today then sustain in the weeks to come, will absolutely effect the quantity and quality of your years down the road!
