Julie Mitchell, Board Certified Naturopathic Doctor, Certified Nutritionist

Where did The Nutrition and Wellness Center come from? It all began in the early 90s when it wasn’t cool, popular or as accessible. Motivated by her oldest son, Nick’s multiple rounds of antibiotics as a baby (which brought no long term relief), she sought out help outside the medical community. She was lead to nutritionist and brother-in-law, Steve Steeves, who had healed himself from a crippling form of arthritis using natural means.

During this stressful time for Julie, she experienced extreme fatigue as a stay-at-home mom of four children under the age of six, and had digestive problems as well as hormonal imbalances.

Julie continues to discover many treasures of truth along this path for herself, her family, and now thousands of clients she has had the privilege of serving over the years. She knows healing comes from within and that it is necessary to find out why the body is not healing as God designed it to; which is based on one or a combination of three things: malnutrition (body isn’t getting, digestion or absorbing the macro/micro nutrients), toxicity (microbes, metals, chemicals), and trauma (physical, spiritual, or emotional). The body must be able to digest food and sleep properly, drain/filter toxins out of it, adapt appropriately to stress while openly communicating through the neuro-endocrine system in order to heal properly. She believes the foundation for our healing potential is grounded in what we: CHEW, DRINK, BELIEVE, SERVE, PLAY and PRAY. So she focuses on eating and lifestyle with proper supplementing with nutrients, herbs, homeopathics, and/or other elements when putting together programs for healing that are based on the individual’s wellness goals. She often recommends various therapies here at The Nutrition and Wellness Center (see Therapies) as well as other experts in the area who are like minded (see Community Partners).

Julie is a Board Certified Naturopathic Doctor, Certified Nutritionist, and Certified Natural Health Professional, founder of The Nutrition and Wellness Center, teacher, and functional medicine educator, who focuses on personalized wellness programs designed to empower individuals to live a full, healthy life. She shares her expertise in Blood Analysis, Bio-energetic Medicine, Colon Hydrotherapy, Neurofeedback, lifestyle coaching, menu planning,  nutrient programs and body composition measuring with individuals and families, and their unique situations.

Julie holds a B.A. from the University of Nebraska, Master of Education from MidAmerican Nazarene College, Certified Nutritionist from the American Health Science University and Doctor of Naturopathy from Trinity School of Natural Health. She also graduated from the Energetix College of BioEnergetic Medicine. She has completed continuing education hours in Mastering Functional Blood Chemistry, Neurofeedback Certification, and Applied Microscope & Nutrition Technology for Health Advocacy. She is a member of the Certified Natural Health Professionals of Virginia and completed Operations Training from Lifestream, Colon Hydrotherapy Institute. She believes in the importance of personal and professional development by continually educating herself through wellness seminars, reading books/articles of various subjects on wellness and meeting with others to study God’s Word and learning from their experiences while being vulnerable with and accountable to them. She trusts the wisdom and power behind the truth of iron sharpens iron.

Julie married her college sweetheart, Jeff and they have 4 children: Nick, Allie, Elizabeth and Calvin. She enjoys playing with all of them, any kind of adventure (almost any), reading, spending time with friends as well as her 10 siblings when she gets the chance, plus staying fit through walking, cycling, and studying the Word of God. She has spent the past 20+ years encouraging and guiding her family and community in their journey of overall wellness. Her passion is to see others not only live disease and pain free lives but also ones full of energy, stamina, hope, and most of all…love and joy!

“Cultivate these things. Immerse yourself in them. The people will all see you mature right before their eyes! Keep a firm grasp on both your character and your teaching. Don’t be diverted. Just keep at it. Both you and those who hear you will experience salvation.”

1 Timothy 4:15-16

Jeff Mitchell, Lifestyle Coach & Colon Hydrotherapist

Born, raised, and educated in the great state of Nebraska (Go Huskers!) inspires Jeff to educate the community on wellness and living life abundantly.

His grandparents were farmers who shared with him the beauty of their fertile land and eating a raw diet.

After graduating from college at the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a Business & Technology degree, he started a 23-year career in sales and marketing for 2 of the largest consumer product companies in the world, Unilever & Conagra Brands. It was here that he learned the quality and value of food was not a top priority for manufacturers or consumers.

Since 2009, he has been a Lifestyle Coach & Colon Hydrotherapist at The Nutrition and Wellness Center and enjoys working full time with his lovely wife, Julie Mitchell.

His desire is to educate clients with the truth that healthy living produces healthy lives.

Andy Britt, Colon Hydrotherapist

Andy first came to TNAWC as a client in 2009. Her health improved greatly through Julie’s guidance through proper nutrition, quality supplements, and colon hydrotherapy. She became interested in a career as a hydrotherapist after making colon hydrotherapy a regular part of her healthy lifestyle. After these life changing events, Andy turned toward a career in wellness and earned her certification through Lifestream Colon Hydrotherapy Institute for the Angel of Water System.

Andy has also served in our community as a landscape artist with her own small business for a number of years. She received an Associates Degree in Horticulture Technology from Lenoir Community College, Kinston, NC. You can catch her using her skills at planting delicious things in the square foot garden off our kitchen, planting flowers outside our office windows, or bringing her green thumb into the office with colorful plants.

In her free time, you’ll find Andy cooking and enjoying time with family and friends. She loves to take walks in the cool of the morning before work and one of her favorite things to do at the end of the day is curl up with her sweet kitty, Zeb. She knows the source of her strength comes from the Lord and believes He has called her to serve and love her family, clients of TNAWC and others throughout our community.

Andy is full of southern hospitality and you’ll always get a warm greeting when she serves you here.
